John Kasich

Senior Fellow; Former Governor and Representative from Ohio

Headshot of John Kasich

Kasich is a well-known name in U.S. politics, having served as a U.S. representative from Ohio from 1983 to 2001, and as governor of Ohio from 2011 to 2019. After graduating from the Ohio State University, Kasich went on to serve in the Ohio Senate until his time in Congress. Kasich is best known in Washington for his bipartisan efforts to successfully balance the federal budget in 1997. Whether it was opposing programs he found wasteful as a congressman or accepting then-President Obama’s expansion of Medicaid as the governor of Ohio, Kasich was not afraid to be at odds with his own party. As governor, he also helped lead a bipartisan coalition of states to develop proposals to fix America’s health care system.
